1901: Aurora Automatic Machinery Company produced engines for Indian Motocycles

Aurora Automatic Machinery Company started in 1901 and manufactured engine parts. From 1901 to 1907 they produced engines for Indian Motocycles..

They began producing bicycles with auxiliary engines attached. The name “Thor” was chosen for the motorcycles, inspired by the mighty Norse god of thunder.

Thor Motorcycles quickly gained popularity, and by 1903, they became a dedicated motorcycle manufacturer, abandoning the production of bicycles. During this period, Thor was known for producing high-quality and powerful motorcycles, competing with other well-known brands of that time.

Thor Motorcycles achieved considerable success in motorcycle racing. Their racing team competed in various events, gaining recognition and accolades for their achievements on the track.

Despite their early successes, Thor Motorcycles faced financial challenges in the later years. The company struggled to keep up with competition from other motorcycle manufacturers, and by the mid-1920s, the company ceased production, marking the end of the original Thor Motorcycles.
